Call for proposals to host and organize TEI 2012

As of 2010, TEI is an ACM sponsored conference. The Steering Committee welcomes proposals for hosting and organizing future TEI conferences from active members of the community. The conference is typically held in late January or in February, and care should be taken to avoid date conflicts (with regard to the conference and submission deadlines) with international conferences such as CHI that attract a similar audience and overlap regarding paper topics.

TEI attracts an interdisciplinary audience from HCI, engineering, design and the arts and to provide a platform for discussion and meeting people. We value diversity and aim to learn from other perspectives. As a custom, TEI has had a one-submission-track for all papers (regardless of length) and presentation categories (talks, posters, demos), with authors indicating their preferred presentation style. While there might be different types of communicating and contributions, these all have equal value.

Proposals should seek to address the following issues

• people involved in the bid and their roles (at minimum a conference and paper chair). Please include a short bio for core people and highlight involvement in previous TEI conferences and with the TEI community
• commitment to publish the proceedings with ACM and to apply for ACM sponsorship
• organizational support at the hosting location
• proposed location and details about a possible venue (1/2 to 1 page for venue and city/region each)
• potential time(s) when the conference can be held
• estimated time for issuing the CfP, availability of a website, submission deadlines and registration deadlines
• budget overview (venue hire, etc.) and anticipated financial model (see ACM Conference Financial Management). Please look at the ACM TMRF requirements and include a sketch of the answers to the main questions, and an idea of how your overall budget will map onto the ACM issues.
• local organization and supporting organizations
• rough idea of likely costs for visitors (estimates only): registration rates for students and non-students (including the dinner), travel costs and rough times from main cities like London, New York, Sydney, a basic decent hotel for 4 nights
• arguments on why the conference as proposed by you will be attractive for the TEI community (e.g. accessibility, international rotation, location, relation to specific sub-communities, ability to attract both new and 'old' conference visitors)
• likely sponsors
• any direction/theme change you would envisage and any new features/tracks you would like to include

Deadline for bids: 1. July 2010.

(The SC will then take a decision within ca. two months time)
